A Year Behind the Scenes with a London-Based Videographer
Looking back over the past year, it’s hard to believe just how many stories, locations, and projects have come together through the lens. From early-morning call times to late-night pack-downs, this year has been a whirlwind of creativity, collaboration, and constant movement — exactly what makes life as a London-based videographer so rewarding.
98 Video Shoots, Countless Stories
Over the course of the year, I worked on 98 video shoots, spanning not just London but locations across the UK. While the London remained home base, projects took me to Wales, Scotland, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, York, Oxford, and Cambridge, each location bringing its own rhythm, challenges, and visual character.
Every shoot came with a different brief, a new team, and a fresh story to tell — whether that was capturing the energy of a live event or shaping a carefully lit interview.
A Wide Range of Video Projects
One of the highlights of the year has been the sheer variety of work. No two days looked the same, and that diversity kept every project exciting. Shoots included:
Corporate videos for brands and organisations
Interview videos, from intimate one-on-one setups to multi-camera productions
Event filming, capturing everything from conferences to live activations
Promotional shoots with football teams, blending cinematic visuals with high-energy action
Documentary shoots, focused on real stories and authentic moments
Video podcasts, balancing clean audio with dynamic visuals
TV commercials, where every frame had to count
Green screen shoots, requiring precision lighting and planning
Educational films, designed to inform, engage, and inspire
Each format demanded a different approach — from fast-paced run-and-gun filming to carefully structured, storyboard-led productions.
Working Directly With Clients — and With Agencies
Throughout the year, I had the opportunity to work both directly with clients and as a freelance videographer for agencies and production companies across London.
Direct client work often meant being involved from the earliest planning stages — helping shape creative direction, advising on production logistics, and delivering final films that aligned with brand goals.
Agency and production company shoots, on the other hand, were all about collaboration and adaptability. Stepping into established crews, integrating seamlessly into production workflows, and delivering broadcast-ready footage on tight schedules is a challenge I genuinely enjoy.
Trusted Gear on Every Shoot
Consistency and reliability are essential when you’re filming at this scale. Every shoot was filmed using trusted Canon 4K cinema cameras and Canon mirrorless cameras, chosen for their exceptional image quality, colour science, and flexibility across different shooting environments.
From low-light event spaces to controlled studio setups, this kit delivered cinematic results time and time again — allowing the focus to stay on storytelling rather than technical limitations.
Looking Ahead
This year behind the scenes has been a reminder of why I love being a videographer in London. The city’s pace, the variety of industries, and the constant flow of creative opportunities make it an incredible place to work.
With 98 shoots completed and countless hours spent filming, directing, and collaborating, the year has laid a strong foundation for what’s next. More stories to tell, more locations to explore, and more moments to capture — all through the lens.
Here’s to another year of filming.
