Videographer Job London
Are you looking for a job or career working as videographer or filmmaker in London?
Working as a videographer in London is a fantastic job and career. It can take you all over the world. You can experience the joy of filming incredible people and places. All the time you are able to hone your craft and skills as a videographer.
I work with crew and team members on many of my shoots and am always looking for reliable people to add to my roster. Maybe you are a videographer yourself who can come and film second camera or maybe you’re a fantastic video editor. Let me know where your skills lie and hopefully we can work together on a production soon. Below are some of the key roles I often require help with.
Camera assistant
Camera assistants are a key member on the set of many of the video productions I work on. The role of the camera assistant is to assist the videographer. This could be passing lenses, setting up lights or rigging the gimbal. Anything the videographer needs, the camera assistant will help with.
Video editor
Video editors are one of the most commonly hired crew members for myself. I’m often in need of additional support by video editors to handle the high number of edits we have on. I’m often busy directing and filming projects and can only take on a select number of vide edits personally. This is where a video editor comes in useful. Someone who can use after effects and produce special effects is preferred.
Second camera operator
A second camera operator is like having a second videographer on set. However they will be under the instruction of the main videographer. Second camera operators come in useful when an interview requires three or more camera angles. Camera operators with the same kit and myself are usually the ones I hire. We fit with Canon cinema cameras so if you have C300MKII or C500MKII I’d love to hear from you.
Gaffer
Gaffers come is useful on our bigger projects. We get to fit some great commercial projects where we elevate our lighting beyond that which a single videographer can rig themselves. On these bigger projects we use gaffers and also sparks to rig lights safely as required. We often bring in gaffers who usually work on film sets and have experience with all kinds of lights. As a videographer, I often work with the gaffer to create a lighting list specific for each film we make.
Work experience or runner
Those who are entry level to the industry and looking to shadow a professional videographer often come in as a runner. The runner is happy to be on set just to simply gain experience and soak in everything unravelling around them. Spending time on set increases your knowledge and experience. No better person to shadow than a videographer filming a wide array of projects.
Sound person
Without sound, you wouldn’t have much of a film. This is why a sound person is key for certain shoots. Sit down interviews I can handle myself as a videographer. However for moving setups, a sound person is vital. Another scenario where I hire in a sound person is when we’re filming outside. A sound person will use a blimp to block wind noise. They are a vital addition for any videographer filming outside or moving projects.

We work with lots of professional camera crew but we also welcome people new to the industry for work experience. You can also work on set as a runner to gain experience whilst helping things run smoothly.
