Charity Impact Film Case Study. In Kind Direct Documentary Film
Client
In Kind Direct
Project
Charity impact film showcasing the difference product giving makes in communities across the UK.
Bringing the impact of product giving to life
In Kind Direct is the UK’s leading product giving charity, connecting businesses with charitable organisations to ensure essential products reach the people who need them most.
Founded in 1996 by HM King Charles III, In Kind Direct works with some of the UK’s biggest brands, including Tesco, P&G, Haleon, Unilever, Essity and Kimberly-Clark, redistributing donated consumer products to charities across their network.
From toiletries and household essentials to everyday products many people take for granted, their work helps ensure that vulnerable communities have access to the basics needed to stay clean, healthy and well — while also preventing perfectly usable products from going to waste.
The aim of this film was to showcase the real human impact behind that work.
The challenge: telling a powerful story with dignity
In Kind Direct wanted to create a film that demonstrated the scale of poverty in the UK, while also showing the positive change created through their partnerships.
Rather than focusing solely on hardship, the goal was to create an uplifting documentary-style film that celebrated the people, organisations and communities benefiting from product giving.
The challenge was to tell an honest story while ensuring everyone involved felt comfortable, respected and empowered throughout the filming process.
When working with people experiencing difficult circumstances, authenticity is essential. The film needed to reflect real experiences without making contributors feel defined by their challenges.
Creating an authentic documentary-style charity film
Working closely with In Kind Direct who for this film project partnered with one of the charities in their network, The Little Edi Foundation, we developed a documentary approach focused on genuine moments, real conversations and the people at the heart of the story.
The Little Edi Foundation does incredible work supporting communities and creating opportunities for young people. Their projects help provide essential support while also giving young volunteers the chance to develop confidence, empathy and valuable life skills through volunteering.
The film followed the journey of the products donated through In Kind Direct and showed the impact these essential items can have on everyday lives.
From families who struggle to afford basic toiletries to individuals who rely on community support, the film highlighted something many people take for granted: access to everyday essentials can make a huge difference to someone's wellbeing and dignity.
Filming with care and compassion
A key part of the production was ensuring that everyone involved felt comfortable and valued.
Having extensive experience filming with children and vulnerable contributors, we approached the production with sensitivity and patience. Creating an environment where people could relax and be themselves was essential to capturing authentic moments.
The intention was never to create a film based around sadness. Instead, the focus was on resilience, community and the positive difference made when organisations come together.
The result: a film that connects partners with purpose
The finished film gave In Kind Direct a powerful way to communicate the impact of their work to their corporate partners, including Tesco, P&G, Haleon, Unilever, Essity and Kimberly-Clark.
By showing the real-world difference created by product donations, the film helped partners see how their support translates into meaningful change for communities across the UK.
Through documentary storytelling, the film transformed statistics about poverty and product giving into a human story — showing not just what In Kind Direct does, but why it matters.
