4k Green Screen video shoot

Earlier in the week I was filming over in East London creating some 4k green screen videos for beauty products manufacture COTY. This is the second larger sized project I’ve done for COTY and it’s a privilege to produce work for such a large brand. I’ve shot quite a bit of green screen now so it’s nice going into a green screen studio feeling comfortable that i’ll get a good key. Here are some of my top tips for getting a decent key:

1. Lighting! Always go for soft even lighting. Use the false colour on your monitor to ensure it’s even throughout.
2. Resolution matters. The higher the resolution the better the footage will key. At the very least shoot in 4k
3. Colour depth. You can still key 8 bit 420 material but 10 bit 422 or 12 bit raw will make your life a lot easier.
4. Shutter speed. If you have a sharper image your material will key better especially if there is any movement. Shoot at 1/100th.
